At Fresh Look Exterior, gutter cleaning means clearing debris from the inside of the trough. That is different from washing the outside face of the gutter, which we treat as part of a house wash rather than as gutter cleaning. Knowing the difference matters when you compare quotes, because one company may be pricing a quick scoop of the top layer while another is pricing a full clean of the interior.

What a complete job includes

A complete gutter cleaning should cover three things:

Debris removed from the gutter interior, not just the top layer.
Gutter guards cleaned off, if you have them.
Downspouts checked for flow before the crew leaves.

On our jobs the debris is taken out, the trough is flushed, and every downspout is checked so water can actually leave the roofline. Ask any company whether they check the downspouts. A clean trough with a blocked downspout still leaves water with nowhere to go.

Guards do not mean never

Gutter guards are a good addition, but they do not make gutters maintenance free. Guarded gutters need cleaning less often, not never, because fine sediment still builds up in the trough. If you have guards, you are usually deciding how often to clean, not whether to clean.

Do you clear the inside of the gutter or only the top?
Do you check that each downspout flows before you leave?
